2020 Foyston, Gordon & Payne Foundation Grant Recipients

The global pandemic has greatly affected children across the country. Many schools have relied heavily on virtual sessions, limiting students’ opportunities to engage and socialize with their peers. For some children, the pandemic has also meant being confined to an unsafe environment.

This year, the Foyston, Gordon & Payne Foundation presented its annual grants to the following organizations to support children during these difficult times:

Here is a brief description of each organization:

Founded in Toronto in 1993, Camp Kirk creates a small nurturing environment for children with autism, anxiety, learning disorders and ADHD. During this summer sleepaway camp, children are able to gain confidence and learn more about themselves through non-competitive programming.

The Gatehouse Child Abuse Investigation & Support Site has been a safe place for childhood sexual abuse survivors over the past 22 years in Toronto, offering community-based support programs to help survivors heal from their trauma. The Gatehouse focuses on providing support and outreach as well as collaborating with the community to create a future where survivors can heal and reclaim their voices.

Based in Edmonton, the Zebra Child Protection Centre is the community’s response to child abuse. There, a collaborative team of law enforcement, specialized assessors, medical professionals, and child advocates assist children throughout the entire process – from the initial interview to going to court.

The Treehouse Vancouver Child and Youth Advocacy Centre is a multi-disciplinary network of community partners that work together to intervene in and prevent child abuse. The Centre provides a safe, friendly facility to support the investigation process, programs to educate the community regarding child abuse prevention and intervention, and a network of support for children and their families.

The Portal Youth Outreach Association is a resource centre in Nova Scotia for Annapolis Valley youth who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. As part of their goal to reduce the number of youth experiencing homelessness and to prevent further youth from becoming homeless, Portal offers skill development and housing support programs.

More information on these organizations is available on their respective websites.

The Foyston, Gordon & Payne Foundation was established in 2015 to provide a mechanism for the employees of FGP to contribute to charitable activities in many communities across Canada. The Foundation’s mission is to support charities whose activities and programs benefit children.
