When Peter Gordon, Malcolm Payne, and I quit our jobs to launch Foyston, Gordon & Payne in 1980, we did so because we believed that offering investment counselling was a better method of serving customers than the traditional brokerage model.
Our informal mission statement at the time was to provide clients with high integrity, quality, and service, and to invest their assets to meet their investment needs and goals.
From a handful of staff in 1980 to over 50 employees today, FGP has continued to respect the value investment philosophy upon which Peter, Malcolm and I had agreed when creating our firm.
Having retired from FGP in 1992, the most rewarding part of my career actually came afterwards. It came from seeing the firm transition into its second generation of stewardship, then into its third while planning for its fourth.
I believe FGP’s success over the years has stemmed from being steadfast in meeting its clients’ needs, and from having good relationships with these clients.
I am positive about the future of FGP, a firm positioning itself for measured growth. I invite you to meet the firm’s people here, and to entrust your business to them.
