The past two years have been challenging for youth across the country, with many feeling overwhelmed and isolated during the pandemic. To support youth, organizations have adapted to the current environment and offered new virtual programs and transformed existing ones.
This year, the Foyston, Gordon & Payne Foundation presented its annual grants to four organizations that have supported local youth during these challenging times:
- The Arctic Children and Youth Foundation
- Shining Horizons Therapeutic Riding Association Inc.
- Partners for Youth Inc.
- BYTE – Empowering Youth Society
Here’s a brief description of each organization:
Based in Iqaluit, Nunavut, the Arctic Children and Youth Foundation (ACYF) is one of the only organizations that serves the territory’s youth. The organization’s programs strive to help Nunavut youth acquire the same level of services and standard of living that youth in other parts of the country receive.
Shining Horizons Therapeutic Riding Association Inc. is a volunteer-based charity in Saint John, New Brunswick, that enhances the lives of children through therapeutic riding. The riding programs offered by the organization are adapted to each rider’s needs and helps these children develop physically, socially, and mentally.
Partners for Youth Inc. was founded in 1994 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, with the goal of developing effective support programs for at-risk youth. Over the years, the organization has delivered numerous empowerment programs and has grown to support youth across the province.
BYTE – Empowering Youth Society, based in Whitehorse, Yukon, creates opportunities for Northern youth to learn leadership skills through various interactive workshops. The team travels throughout the Yukon, Northern British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories to help youth gain confidence and develop personal and social skills.
More information on these organizations is available on their respective websites.
The Foyston, Gordon & Payne Foundation was established in 2015 to provide a mechanism for the employees of FGP to contribute to charitable activities in many communities across Canada. The Foundation’s mission is to support charities whose activities and programs benefit children.
